NEWS: NINA LIVE! IS CERTIFIED DIAMOND (ALEXIPEDIA) - OCTOBER 15, 2009

Nina Live is certified Diamond

Soul Siren Nina has recently made history as her 2005 album, Nina Live! was awarded 10x Platinumor an equivalent to a Diamond Record Award after it has sold more than 200,000 units as of October, 2009. Nina is the first and only local female artist to be awarded such

Nina Live! is a 19-track compilation of remakes which includes monster hits Love Moves in Mysterious Ways, Through the Fire, Constantly and I Love You Goodbye, a Celine Dion original.

The 28-year old songstress was teary-eyed when Warner Music Philippines surprised her with the award in ASAP ’09 last Sunday, October 11, 2009. She was caught unaware especially when two-time Diamond Record awardee Jose Mari Chan gave her a pat on the back on VTR.

Jose Mari Chan scored the first Diamond Record award with Constant Changereleased in 1989. In December 2006, he broke his own record after his 1990 Christmas album Christmas in Our Hearts received a Double Diamond Record certification

A Diamond Record award in this era of piracy is such a great feat. Think about how many people would pay for at least P250 for an original copy with the presence of a pirated version of it of almost the same quality sold for a much lower price. And who’s not guilty of downloading media files from Limewire or BitTorent without knowing its illegal?

Piracy has become the reason for great losses in the local and international businesses since the early 1990’s. Last year, International Intellectual Property Alliance (IIPA) reported a lost of 222 million dollars in the country’s software and music industries due to piracy. Alarming isn’t it? That’s exactly the reason why I have almost resigned from believing that we could still recover from this. But thanks Nina and those who made this Diamond Record award possible through their effort in buying original CD’s and cassettes. Somehow it gives a little assurance that we can still enjoy the same amount and quality of entertainment in years and years and years to come.
