CHRISTMAS AT SM BEGINS (THE MANILA TIMES) - NOVEMBER 18, 2011

MOA turns into Winter Wonderland
The Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at the SM Mall of Asia officially ushered in the Christmas season at the SM Supermalls with a “Winter Wonderland” theme.

No less than SM Prime Holdings President Hans Sy, together with celebrity Richard Gomez, wife Tarlac Rep. Lucy Torres and daughter Juliana, participated in the lighting of the mall’s 50-foot dazzling Christmas tree, adorned in lights, stars and balls. SM Supermalls president Annie Garcia and vice president Steven Tan joined them.

They also took guests around Snowville, a giant globe built like the iconic snow globes. Upon entering, one can feel the snow fall and catch a feel of winter.

Hosted by ABS-CBN’s Karylle and Nikki Gil, the star-studded program filled the air with well-loved carols: “Joy to the World” sung by the hosts, “Silent Night” by Jed Madela, “Oh Happy Day” by Karylle and Zia Quizon, “Oh Holy Night” by Nina the Soul Siren, “Mula sa Puso” by Pilipinas Got Talent’s Jovit Baldivino, and a holiday repertoire by the Mandaluyong Christmas Choir.

The audience was also delighted with Bugoy’s break dance performance with the Supah Kids, and his wish for all kids to be good children and always follow their parents. Khalil, Pilipinas Got Talent’s breakthrough performer, was also a crowd favorite with his rendition of “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing,” followed by the famous Maasinhon Trio with their own version of Basil Valdez’s “Nais Ko.”

The highlight of the program was a special behind the scenes video of Maria Aragon recording “Chrisms,” the SM Supermalls’ Christmas jingle, which will be played in all SM Supermalls during the holidays.

After the program, kids flocked to the log cabin beneath the tree, where Santa Claus greeted them.

Needless to say, the SM Malls are ready to welcome early Christmas shoppers to its department stores and countless branded outlets. With the “Winter Wonderland” sights to behold, yuletide shopping will surely be a pleasure for all patrons.
